Application to to Egyptian coffins
In collaboration with CCR (Centro Conservazione e Restauro “La Venaria Reale”), we applied HSI to the study three Egyptian coffins coming from the Egyptian Museum of Turin. Once we acquired hyperspectral cubes on different regions of the coffins, we successfully validated hyperspectral data comparing them with spectra acquired by a fiber optic reflectance spectroscopy (FORS). In fig 1 the set-up with the HSI on the left hand side and HOR's Egyptian coffin on the backgroud.

The RGB of this partcular of HOR's coffin obtained from hypercube and calulated for a D65 lamp.
The image is about 1000 x 1000 pixels corrsponding to an area of about 10 cm x 10 cm area, with a spatial resolution of about 0.1mm.
The spectral band is from 400 nm to 720 nm with a spectral resolution of about 10 nm.
The acquisition time is 120 s.
Result: HSI vs FORS Spectra
In the graph, we compare HSI spectra (continuous line) with FORS spectra (dashed line) of the reflectance of the pigments from HOR's coffin.
